Credible new information indicates that Samsung’s next-gen Galaxy Z Fold 4 will likely outclass the Galaxy S22 Ultra in one key area.
According to details leaked by perennial tipster, Ice universe, the forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold 4 will come with a new camera design capable of beating Samsung’s current flagship, the Galaxy S22 Ultra at 3x zoom.
In a recent tweet, the tipster claims the next version of Samsung’s huge foldable flagship will deliver at least two notable camera upgrades over the current Galaxy Z Fold 3.
The new Galaxy Z Fold 4 is expected to feature a 50-megapixel main camera, teamed with ultrawide and 3x zoom modules of 12 megapixels each.
This new 50-megapixel main camera offers a significant leap in resolution over the Galaxy Z Fold 3 which uses 12-megapixel sensors on all three rear cameras.
Samsung’s new 3x zoom camera would replace the 2x zoom version found in the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and, if the leaked information turns out to be true, would give the Galaxy Z Fold 4 a significant improvement in zoom capability. Furthermore, the 3x zoom lens is expected to be Samsung’s “strongest 3x camera ever, stronger than the S22 Ultra,” according to Ice universe.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra also comes with a 3x zoom camera, but it’s a 10-megapixel model rather than the 12-megapixel version expected in the Galaxy Z Fold 4. This would at least partially explain the new camera’s expected improvement in performance.
It’s important to note, however, that improvements to the 3x zoom camera won’t give the Galaxy Z Fold 4 better overall zoom performance than the Galaxy S22 Ultra which comes with an additional 10x periscope lens and a 108-megapixel main sensor. However, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 may have an advantage when shooting at between 1x and 3x zoom. We’ll have to wait for real-world results before we know for sure.
Assuming Samsung continues existing release schedules, we can expect the Galaxy Z Fold 4 to arrive sometime around August 2022.
